“I’m Too Blessed to be Stressed!”

A walk on the beach
A walk on the beach

I love my life!!!  It is so comforting to me that I always get just what I need when I need it.  I was on a beach walk this morning (sorry to everyone who is suffering the cold, snow, and ice…I feel your pain :(() and we ran into neighbors we had not spoken with since they arrived for the season.

We all shared the loss of a very special friend last summer.  He was a great man and we mourn the loss of his light.   We talked about everything we could think of until the elephant in the room (on the beach…?)  could no longer be ignored.

I had a couple of energy sucking events in my life this week and I had been working hard to reset my joy.  My initial thought when the conversation went to our deceased friend was, “NO.  I can’t take any more bad thoughts.”

But the most amazing thing happened.  It turned into a beautiful conversation; part remembrance of a man who lived his life well; part fellow travelers helping each other through tough times they were experiencing.  The four of us connected on a level of soul to soul and we all knew that something special had taken place.

To end the conversation my neighbor said he wanted to share the best advise he had ever received.  He was walking one evening up north and he saw an elderly couple scuffling along.  They held onto each other and their tiny steps carried them almost motionlessly down the road.

My neighbor looked at them and said, “How are you this fine evening?”  He said the woman, who was bent like a question mark, took her crooked index finger and pointed it at him and said, “I am too blessed to be stressed!”  And that was all she said.  They turned and went on their merry way.

It was exactly what I needed to hear in that moment.  The whole gathering, standing on the shore with waves lapping at our feet, was exactly what I needed.

Gratitude. When all else fails and we get bogged down in thoughts of negativity and we find it hard to break the cycle, the answer is to be grateful for all the good things in our lives.  If we can put the focus on what we are grateful for then we change our energy to all that is good.

I am amazed that I can so easily forget some of the most important things that I have learned in my healing process.  But then I give myself a break and I remember that everything happens for a reason.  I remember that every action in life is a lesson to be learned.  The things we forget allow us to learn the lesson again.

And maybe, go with me for a minute here – maybe it wasn’t about me at all.  Maybe our neighbors were in need and we were put in that exact place, in the energy I was in, which allowed me to talk about subjects I might not have.  Maybe they needed love, understanding, and guidance.

I am too blessed to be stressed and I am grateful for every lesson on my path in life.  I wish you many blessings, and understanding.
