Firefly in flight
Catches moonbeams on its tail
Sky lights up in kind

This post is in honor of the first firefly of the summer! Last year my backyard lit up like fireworks, there were so many. Last night I wasn’t sure I saw him, the lone ‘lightening bug’ flying around, indiscriminately shining his light. So I sat and kept my eyes open as long as I could, and BINGO…I saw him!
I thought about why I love these insects so. And I realized the answer: These wonderful bugs carry their light with them and proudly display it no matter what. We could all take a lesson from these flying torches of light!!
Blessitude <3
P.S. I send a prayer for those braving the drought and wildfires out west <3
I’ve yet to see fireflies in real life, Hoping to one day 🙂
Ohhh! I am sending you a giant wish that you get to see one soon!! I think they thrive in warm humid regions. As kids, we used to catch them and put them in jars (with holes poked in the top) and then watch the jar produce a light show!! Ah! Sweet childhood memories…kids running around the yard trying to catch bugs that light up!! Have a super beautiful day! 🙂
That’s such a super beautiful and sweet image on my mind just thinking about the beauty of the glowing jars! 🙂
I love your response 🙂 that is exactly the kind of enthusiasm we had as we prepared the jars and caught the fireflies!! Of course I was worried about what they would eat in captivity…and I didn’t have google to look it up at my fingertips! I can remember putting lettuce…tomatoes…and even other bugs in the jar to give them options 😉
Did they go for those? 😀
Nar! I would set them free (much to the disdain of my siblings and friends) when I thought they were hungry!
That’s very humanitarian lol 😉
Now I also want to see a firefly! I have never seen one!
Awww!! Trini! I send this wish to you also!! 🙂 I’ve been thinking of you. Hope everything is wonderful ♡♡♡
Yes, I have been sick, but getting better now 🙂 Did you get the card I sent? I sent it to the Florida address.
I knew something was wrong 🙁 I send you beautiful healing energy sweet Angel! No…I did not receive it yet…but the mail is forwarded so it will be here soon!! I can’t wait 🙂 Remember the time it took months to get here ….and then it arrived at exactly the perfect t I me 🙂 🙂 Feel better, Trini ♡♡♡
Yes, I remember 🙂 Hopefully it will do that this time too <3 Hugs! <3
I have no doubt about that!! 🙂 Feel better Trini ♡♡
Thank you <3
Oh, so wonderful. I will not look at a firefly the same- you are so right- it carries its own light and proudly displays it!
Yes, Kim! That is my thought for the day…to carry my light, oh so visibly, and to display it with honor!! 😉 Beautiful day, friend ♡
Nice Lorrie. Shine on my little firefly! 🙂 Thankfully, I’ve seen a few here too.
Isn’t it funny, Brad, how we take things for granted. I never thought that there were people who never saw one before! It is good to know…it will make me more aware of all the little things I am grateful for!! Love to you ♡
Agreed Lorrie, sometimes the simple things are great treasures. Hugs and love… <3
I love watching the fireflies in my yard…so magical. <3
🙂 I’m so happy you get to see them!! My little guy looked alone last night…I will look every night now to see his friends. Enjoy that peace ♡
Beauteous!
Thanks Cindy! I appreciate it! Your post on zebras reminded me of an art project I want to do…they lend themselves nicely to black & white!! Have a super day!
beautiful post my friend <3
Thanks, Neha 🙂 Many blessings!! ♡
I don’t think I have ever seen a fire fly, I envy you. Such beauty and fun. Sending hugs, Lisa🌸🌸🌸
I just wrote to Brad how amazed I am that there are people who have never seen one!! I hope you get to one day…and it does make me grateful and not take things for granted!! ♡
Watching and catching fireflies are one of my favorite summer activities! It is just magical to watch them light up the sky! Beautiful- just like you 🙂
Aww!! Thank you, Julie!! You are so sweet 🙂 I’m happy you know the joy of these light filled little insects…a true sign of summer for me!! ♡
Fireflies or Lightening bugs are letting their Lights shine in New York City!
Yayy! DeBorah…I never thought they would fly around the city!! Very adventuresome fireflies…yes indeed! <3
I’ve seen fewer fire flies in my yard over the year, which makes me sad, because I think it has to do with the city and neighbors spraying. But when I do see one, it is so much more exciting because it is rare. I must watch for one, maybe out in the country. You are blessed to have so many little lights of joy.
Hi JoAnne. The “crop” this year, at least so far, is very light. I will see if they amp up soon. Last year it was truly like a light show, beautifully choreographed to music 😉 I think of all the years in between childhood and my reawakening and it saddens me that I didn’t even give fireflies a thought!! So, today I am grateful for SEEING my world and BEING a part of it!! Many blessings <3
Wonderful haiku and sentiment, Lorrie! Indeed something we can learn from <3 🙂
Hi Tiny 🙂 Thank you…I love finding a lesson in the most unexpected places!! Have a wonderful day <3
Beautiful…what a wonderful sight it might be!….
I am sending you a mental image of the beauty! 🙂 Thanks Maniparna… I hope that all is super in your world <3
Great analogy!! Beautiful Haiku! Thank you for sharing! Oh, how miss fire flies! I have not lived in a place where they live since I was a young adult. A few years ago, we were in the Midwest for a reunion, both my wife and I were like kids watching the fire flies!
I have a visual of the two of you watching with delight!! It truly is the small things in life that can evoke great passion! Thanks, Kirt! 🙂
I saw so many on my childhood visits to Missouri. We tried to catch them too. I liked how you say they carry their light in them just as we can if we let it show. Of course with the lightning bugs came the chiggers and mosquitoes. I rarely go out after dark anymore and when I do, I have bats whizzing by my head. If they are here in this area, they were dinner for something.:) Great poem and photo
Aw…thanks Marlene! My mind is racing trying to figure out who’s dinny the bats would be…no…I’m not sure I want to know 😉 Stay away from predators!! I’m happy you have had the joy of chasing fireflies!! 🙂 ♡
Hi Lorrie! Good to see you again!! I’ve missed hearing from you and hope all is well with you and yours. Hope you will start looking my way again as I’m posting again after my little break. I will certainly visit you as you have always been one of my favorites!
Thanks for the prayers for us “dry guys” out West! Heck, even the palms and cactus are walking around with their tongues hanging out…
TTYL,
Steve
Aw…thanks Steve! I wondered how you would be affected with the drought and those terrible wildfires! Glad to see you are writing again. All is good here. Hope you are well…I will be over to catch up soon!
I know I can always count on you and your friendship, Lorrie! You just pop on by whenever you can!!
Thanks so much,
Steve 🙂
Ohhhhh, fireflies are so cool, aren’t they? I think I only started noticing fireflies after I moved to Brazil.
Lovely Lorrie. Hope you’re doing well.
🙂 <3
All is good Staci…just very busy right now 😉 Good to see you…many blessings my friend ♡
