Who Am I?

20160209_070802

I have been many things,

held many jobs,

answered many questions,

and asked a million or two.

I have felt many feelings,

and tried not to feel,

made myself numb in ways I care to forget!

But through it all,

every step of the journey,

there has been a constant thread,

one discerning element that defines me…

I am an artist!

There…I said it…

and I mean it.

I am an artist!

I am a creator!!

As I contemplate the full power of this statement, I can feel a blossoming of beauty surge from the core of my being.  The years I spent wondering what I was supposed to be doing, I now realize I have been doing all along.

I have always been happiest when I am making things.  I scoffed at calling myself an artist, thinking that term was reserved for those who specialized in a medium.

I am attending a couple of glass art classes and they ask you introduce yourself in the beginning.  This introduction has been hard for me as my background has been a smorgasbord of artistic expression.

I don’t know if my reluctance to call myself an artist was a self-esteem issue or rather a lack of commitment on my part.  Possibly it was both.  Or maybe there were so many things I tried not to see, not to remember, that I lost my ability to see myself!

Either way, as I lift the veils that shroud my eyes I feel a certain power emanating, flowing, rising to the surface of my world.  I embrace it with open arms and welcome a lost lamb home.

Two very dear friends gave me the gift of their words recently.  One, an incredible artist, said, “You need to know your talent.”  And Dennis, from Merging Traffic, wrote, “Peace, graced artist/storyteller.”

And I said, “Ahhhhh!”  I took her advice and I slipped on his words like a new pair of shoes, dispelling any fear, and understanding there can be humility in the proclamation.  And I do feel “GRACED!’  And to be graced and not honor the gift would be a shame, indeed.

So many of you left me such heart warming comments on my last post where I displayed my first hand cut fused decorative glass plate.  I thank you all, for each and every comment washed over me and gave me understanding, and confidence to be able to say,

I am an Artist

I am a Creator

I am BLESSITUDE!

  1. Hi Lorrie, claim it, my friend. I have done the same thing just in the past year. This new eye-opening, soul-clearing beauty-celebrating persona seems to be the gift of an awakening universe. I am very thankful that we can take this journey together.

    1. Yes!! Thank you Teresa 🙂 It feels so powerful to me…not power in an ego way…but power in Spirit!! It is an amazingly beautiful journey…and yes…I am so happy to connect with you and share this feeling!! 🙂

  2. Love, love, love the ending of this. I can so relate to the sense of not identifying as an “artist” because I associated “artist” with a stereotype. You are such much BROADER than any self-limiting definition, Lorrie. So glad you see beyond your own boundaries.

    1. Oh…Kim! Thank you so much! I love how you see it…’So glad you see beyond your own boundaries,’ ….It is like breaking through the self-limiting thoughts to see ourselves the way we were made…the way we were intended to be seen! <3

  3. And there you have it in a nutshell. Artist is a hard word for most of us to embrace with Grace. It’s why we are here, to create. You’ve expressed it so artistically. Loved this piece of artwork. 🙂

    1. Hi Marlene!!! Thank you beautiful friend…gifted artist!! It is why we are here…Yes! To create 🙂 I feel a kind of liberation in stating these words…and I wish to accept it gracefully…always. I hope you are busy creating…which I am certain that you are!! Much love <3 <3

  4. Congratulations on embracing your creative self and more of the truth of who you are Lorrie. I’ve had similar challenges around photography, art and finding my path. Maybe I can embrace my inner artist and see where it goes. I’m delighted for you. I feel your aliveness! 🙂

    1. Thank you my great friend, Brad <3 I love, 'more of the truth of who you are!' I think our whole journey reflects the uncovering…piece by piece…of this truth, Brad. I wish for you…that you unearth the treasures of the gifts of your soul…piece by piece…and that you recognize each tiny step!! Best wishes my friend <3

    1. Oh, Meg!!! I have always LOVED NEW SHOES 🙂 🙂 🙂 I hope you are well dear friend, and that the light of love and the energy of hope washes your soul!! ♡♡♡

    1. Thank you Val!! You stirred my heart which promptly turned on little tears from my eyes!! Thank you for your beautiful blessing!! I wish you wonderful love of all things ♡♡

  5. That plate is pretty indeed.
And like I mentioned in your last post, we are made to create. I read a book once, even used a quote from it in a blog post, ““Because we are created in the image of God we all have an irresistible impulse to create and to establish order” –Steven Altrogge. You go girl 💕💕💕💕

    1. Thanks my dear beautiful friend!! I’m glad I looked in my spam…I can’t believe it would throw your comments to spam but it did…I’ve been having some WP issues of late. So happy I didn’t miss your wonderful words ♡♡

      1. Ohhhh no. It looks like a lot of people are having trouble with WP lately. I think I’m going to contact them. Thanks for letting me know it was in your spam Lorrie.
And you are more than welcome. You did a beautiful job indeed.
        🙂 <3

  6. Hi Lorrie! Well, I could have told you that you have a flair for writing…in fact I’ve told you that before. You can turn a creative phrase as well as many others, and that is a form of artistry. I wish you the best as you “lift the veils” from your eyes and discover your creative talents. I hope all else is good with you…

    Steve

    1. You are very sweet in your words there, Steve…Thank you!! I am quite thrilled to explore this new phase and believe it will be very spiritual as well. Things are good…a few challenges here and there but on the whole I am so very grateful. I hope that you are also in a pocket of Grace!! 🙂

      1. Thanks, Lorrie, but I’d better always be in His grace…I need it so often! I try to live by the words of (1 John 1:7) which says:

-If we walk in the Light as He is in the Light, we have fellowship with Him. And the blood of Jesus Christ continually washes away our sins-

You have a lot of talents Lorrie. Explore and enjoy them all!

        🙂

    1. Dear sweet heart…Thank you!! ♡♡ We are so graced dear Amy…to be able to do the things we do…to be able to have the love we have and the connection to life…Ah!! Many blessings dear friend ♡♡

  7. Hi there dear Lorrie! I’m just quickly popping by to explain my absence these past couple of weeks – my entire village has been without telephony and internet for twelve whole days and supply has only just this morning been restored. The email backlog is quite horrendous as a consequence and so do please forgive my fleeting presence. H <3

    1. Hi Hariod 🙂 So good to see you! A non-self imposed ‘disconnect’…oh no! I can only imagine the back log you have. No worries…I understand how quickly emails can pile up with even just a few disconnected days. I shall be somewhat absent as the next 2 weeks I will be spread very thin. Take your time and do what you can. I’m happy you are back…I did notice your absence and worried a little 😉 And I say a little prayer … for a town disconnected that long I hope that everything is okay and that it wasn’t something terrible! Much love to you Hariod ♡♡

  8. Dear Lorrie, what an inspiring post brimming with joy. You are an artist, a Creator and you
BLESSITUDE! And might I add, beautiful on every level I can think of. With love, Harlon

    1. Hehe…Harlon…I do believe I am blushing 😉 Thank you, my friend…you always shine your light in my world and I am so grateful for our connection!! Blessings…and peace ♡♡

  9. I’m so happy and excited for you! And for me, too. You see, we are both walking (and skipping and running) to claim our creative talent. When I read, “welcoming a lost lamb home,” I felt deeply moved, because I feel that way too. I have been planning to write about this in a couple days. Much love and happiness to you, my friend!

    1. And I can’t wait to read all about it, JoAnna!! I’m so happy that you resonate in this energy…because it feels so liberating…it feels so right 🙂 I will make sure to read it…though I have a crazy schedule the next two weeks I will be there as soon as I can! Much love ♡♡…And thank you 🙂

  10. The shoe obviously fits, Lorrie, so wear it with pride! I think this is one of the steps we take to give ourselves permission to offer our gifts to the fullest extent possible. So many times we resist claiming something, for one reason or another, and it really hinders us. Once we claim it, we not only are free to explore it without judgment, we are free to give ourselves to it wholly… And surely that will lead to many beautiful expressions to come!

    Much Love
    Michael

    1. My friend!! Your words are powerful…truth!! And it feels liberating…like I have taken handcuffs off…and like I am free to explore things I would never have thought of 🙂 Thank you for all of your support and encouragement. I feel this time is important for me and I am so present in it!! I am in a patch where my time is spoken for …minute by minute…so my reading time is nil 🙁 But I will be back to it as soon as possible. Thank you, Michael…sending you warm wishes of light ♡

  11. You are indeed Lorrie.. and I walked into a glass workshop the other day on a day out.. Soon I hope to share a link within a post to show you..
Unfortunately I couldn’t take any photo’s of the place as I had taken so many of the countryside and my battery on my phone camera was almost out!.. But your artwork and talent was on par with theirs dear Lorrie..

I never doubted for a moment you were not an Artist.. for your talents do not just stop at your artistic creations .. But your create with your BEing all that you touch..

So Bask in the Word.. for that is who you ARE..

Blessings to you my friend xxx

    1. Oh…Sue!! Thank you for the warm feeling in my heart you just created 🙂 🙂 I feel such an incredible opening of my spirit…such a freedom since really honoring what I feel is a gift 🙂 I have been creating so many things and can hardly wait to make pieces that I am thinking about…I even dreamed of a completed glass wall hanging and NAMED IT in my dream!! I thank you for your words that I can feel come from your heart 🙂 I will look forward to your post (I always do 🙂 ) And I send you lots of love and light 😉 ♡♡

  12. Yes you are Lorrie!!! and this is a post I relate to so well <3 sometimes for us artist it is a constant battle of fitting in but once we let go and accept who we are we are at peace 🙂

      1. Much love to you, Lorrie. I’m just so happy for you. I’m forever behind. No rush to catch up, I’ll be here for you. 🙂

    1. Dear beautiful Sue!! I was…and then I got very sick 🙁 I am climbing my way back to the living and will be back blogging soon! Thank you my dear friend for thinking of me ♡♡
