I was eating lunch on the outside veranda at a local Pei Wei restaurant. A previous diner had left an opened fortune cookie on the ground. While enjoying my spicy pad thai bowl, a grackle (Florida black bird) walked right up and took the fortune cookie which was only about 2 feet from us.
I went inside and got another fortune cookie to see if he would take another one. I had a plan that I could get photos and write a haiku to post. I very carefully opened the cookie and slid out his fortune because I thought I would include a part of it in the haiku.
“You were born with a ‘Sixth Sense’ and superb insight.”
Perfect!! I put the cookie in approximately the same place and kept my eye on it. My phone rang with a call that I needed to answer. I was distracted, and Mr. Grackle found it to be the perfect opportunity to sneak up and abscond with the cookie! Oh NO!! I waited so patiently…and apparently, so did he!
He was casually walking away so I told my caller to please hold…and be quiet…I would explain in a moment. I got the camera ready and stealthily followed him out to the parking lot. Once he was enjoying his yummy treat, he didn’t mind that I was snap snap snapping away with my camera. Ah! Mission accomplished!! And I only got a few funny looks from fellow diners…oh…and I had to explain to the person I left hanging on the phone!

I would have liked to watch you, the grackle and audience at the restaurant! XD
Yes Brad…we were the only ones sitting outside…but we caused quite the stir inside the restaurant 🙂 and maybe a few cars passing by 😉
LOL
Very Nice Lorrie, and you got some great shots! <3
Thanks Neha 🙂 It was fun…and it probably worked out for the best…because once he was eating his treat he didn’t mind me. If I had caught him earlier he may have flown away!! 🙂 <3. Have a super week!
I’m going to repeat almost the same Brad said: what a fun way to end my day 🙂 I feel like you, I must follow my heart intuition…
our sixth sense is SO important – it is INTUITION… I love your funny and whimsical haiku and the picture, I love birds – we had a very dry September month, almost no rain… this morning we had light rains, and birds like chickadees and blackbirds were back. Incredible: “You were born with a ‘Sixth Sense’ and superb insight.”… it is YOU!!! I’m going to tell you a secret dearest Lorrie, a very long time ago (!) in Montreal, we were in a chinese restaurant and I had a fortune cookie. The message was so beautiful… I still have the paper, and here is what it said:
“Generosity and perfection are your everlasting goals”… ah, my ♥, I think Angels are too kind to us, aren’t they 😉 :-)♥♥
Oh Frédéric! You brought a tear to my eyes!! I believe that fortune cookie found its rightful owner …how beautiful that you kept it all these years!! And if I should believe that mine is true…then my insight tells me that you are not only meeting your goals…but exceeding them!!! This is so exciting dearest!!! And Montreal!!! It is one of the few places out of my Country that I have visited…and I so LOVED it! I think it is a beautiful city…so amazingly clean and so full of culture. .. So we have walked the same streets in this lifetime…As well as others! 😉 <3 <3 <3
…lifetime: I love this word Lorrie – “as well as others”… I could write something with… I hope one day we’ll meet 🙂 thanks for your enthusiastic energy & kindness :-)♥♥♥
And thank you dearest!! Yes…I think we will meet 😉 Have a super wonderful day (night!) <3 <3

It started off with a bump, but things are looking up.

<3
I will send you awesome energy to help keep it up!!! <3
🙂 Thanks Lorrie.

If you trust Allah with the right kind of Tawakkul (trust / reliance) ,He will provide you sustenance as He provides for the birds – they go out in the morning with empty stomachs and come back in the evening with full stomachs…Prophet Mohhamad
Beautiful pictures ! Have a nice day !
Hi Semra…yes…trust and love are so important! ! Thank you for stopping by and commenting! Have a beautiful day 🙂
I always love the “background stories” related to your poems.
Thanks Kim! This one was kind of funny. I’m so happy the grackle decided to cooperate!! 🙂 Sending you much love <3
Isn’t amazing…God can hold together an entire universe with one hand while providing for the smallest of His creatures with the other! I can also tell you that sparrows like French fries, as I was eating lunch on a pier in San Diego Saturday. I noticed a shy little guy afraid to “make a move,” yet determined to stick around and hope for a crumb of food.
I broke off a piece of potato and set it down in his vicinity. It took a few minutes, but soon he decided to take the chance and jumped on the offering while springing into the air…all in one swift motion. I didn’t even get a chance to ask him to chip in for the tab!
Thanks for sharing, Lorrie!

Love the story!! It may not be such a great thing for us to contribute to the delinquency of birds by aiding them to eat fortune cookies and French fries!!! Haha
Thanks for adding here…and I love the comment, “God can hold together an entire universe with one hand while providing for the smallest of His creatures with the other!” Nice to know we had a “hand” in it as well 🙂
Thanks, Lorrie. Yeah, when you think about it, God provides for all of His own, people and animals alike, in some very unique ways.
But the important thing is that He always gives us what we really need, when we really need it. We have to “go after” it, He won’t always just drop things in our laps.
But God can always be counted on for all things…He’s GOD! There is no other being like the Lord!
Oh, at least the fries were “low sodium!”

Love it!! Yes!! 🙂
How lovely … ((smiling)).
