Haiku ~ 1/16/15 (and photobomb!)

The winter ocean

Sprays her mist with hungry zeal

Much to bird’s delight

Blessitude

Lorrie

1/16/15

I had cabin fever, once the fever from the flu broke!  So I forced myself to walk up to the beach and, of course, I brought my phone in case I saw something I needed to take a photo of.  I decided I had to visit the beach because my friend Brad, from Writing to Freedom, stated in a comment that he missed the beach so much and it made me realize that I did too.

I’m so happy I decided to go!  The ocean was not the prettiest I have ever seen, but there is always beauty if you look for it.  I was surprised how good I felt and was able to walk south much longer than I thought I would be able to.  Then we turned around and I was completely shocked to feel a steady 20 mph wind in my face!!

And it reminded me of life.  And it reminded me of how I have been walking in my life lately.  When we walk with the wind we move effortlessly with ease.  When we turn around and walk into the wind there is always struggle.  In that moment it was so clear to me that God intended the wind to help us move through life.  Just like a sailboat uses the wind no matter what direction it is heading we need to change our internal direction and use the wind of faith.

Just when I thought my day couldn’t get any better, a surprise visitor photobombed me!

May you always find a way to walk with the wind!

    1. Thank you Andy!! So am I! I am always amazed at how restorative it is for me to feel the surf and sand, smell the salty air, and let the rhythm of the tide set my balance. Glad you stopped by 🙂

  1. Such loveliness dearest Lorrie 🙂 I miss the ocean too! A lot! 🙂 Here there is no wind, only quiet days 🙂 Yes, I agree with you, God wants us to learn to sail, and we cant really sail if we only know how to get to our destination with the wind in our back <3

    1. Yes, dear Trini! Exactly what I was trying to say 🙂 The wind will not always be at our back, but WE need to find ways to get it there…to walk without struggle. Part of that for me is to always have FAITH and to truly believe that everything will work out! <3 Much love to you <3 <3

    1. Yes!! Thank you! And thank you for the gentle reminder how blessed I am to have my Atlantic soooo close!! I made a vow this year to get there more often…then life happened!!! Life always happens!

Much love to you…I wish you a weekend full of creative inspiration!! <3 <3

  2. Nice analogy. I always use the row you boat down the stream but the wind at your back is a good one. Sometimes facing the wind builds muscle. I tend to go with the flow as much as possible, Beach looks lovely. It’s 3 hrs from me and I can’t drive to it so my last visit was in Sept when my daughter took me for 3 days. I love the ocean too. Your new friend there would make a welcome companion on any walk.

    1. “Merrily, Merrily, Merrily, Merrily….life is but a dream!!” Love it! Yes…it is way easier to row the boat down the stream than up it!!

See…I am so blessed to be so close to the beautiful ocean and I must remember it!! And that doggie was such a surprise! I don’t usually post photos of myself but that beautiful Golden made me do it!

Have a wonderful weekend…and I hope you get to the ocean soon 🙂 <3

  3. The ocean looks great Lorrie; I love it when the surf’s all erratic due to squalls or gales. I must say you certainly look rejuvenated in the photographs, and it’s good to see. I know well that sensation of turning around during a beach walk and being surprised at the strength of the previously unnoticed breeze. It can be a bit daunting after you’ve walked miles in one direction and have to head back!

    1. Yes! Hariod…you know “exactly” what I mean!! And life can be a bit like that as well…when we think things are one way and then to our surprise we find out they really weren’t!

I love that you pointed out that you love when the surf is erratic…It is beautiful…just in a different way. And that is also a lesson that I am trying to bring to my life. Things may not always be the way I would like them to be…but if I look I can find the beauty…it is just a different beauty!

Thank you my friend for your connection, for your friendship. I am very grateful for you <3 Have a super wonderful weekend!

  4. Awesome Lorrie!!! Thanks for taking me on a walk to the beach. Yes I miss the sights, smells and water! This will help put a little wind in my sails for today. I might need sailing lessons! XD
    blessings my dear friend <3

    1. It is funny I could write a post about “sailing” and I have never been on a sailboat!! But I do see them maneuvering the surf…and I have to confess I have wondered more than once HOW they do it!!!

I’m glad you liked the walk, Brad 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend! <3

  5. Getting some fresh air is good! It would be nice to go always with the wind, but unfortunately we have to also swim against the stream and sometimes brake waves, too. I think you have a large deal of courage and huge strength which comes from your belief and positive attitude. That means, no storm can destroy your roots that easily, thus, allowing the branches to spread out and blossom in full bloom when the time is right! Thanks for your huge support! Sending you lots of love!

    1. Thank you dear Inese! I love your spirit so much. Your words always offer me comfort and joy…and LOVE!! I wish for you to weather your winter….with beautiful creations….this I know you will do!!! Hang in there…it won’t be long and the wonderful rebirth of spring will here!! I so appreciate you! <3

  6. Your haiku and ocean photos make me long for summer 🙂 What a beautiful reminder that He is with us and will guide and direct us! Wish I were walking on that beach today 🙂

  7. So glad you listened to your inner guide … And shared the beach with us today! Wish i was there with the wet salty retreiver and 20 mph wind! It looks SO refreshing 🙂

    1. I wish you were too, Val!! Thank you 🙂 The golden was quite a lovely surprise…as was the wind!! I am happy I listened as well! Have a great weekend…hope it warms up for you!!

  8. Wonderful post sweet Lorrie. Looks like you had a very nice day to walk on the beach, can’t beat a photo bomb such as that. 🙂 Loved what you said about the wind…makes a lot of sense to me. Hope you are having a super weekend and you are feeling great now sweet friend. Hugs and blessings

    1. Hi Maggie! I’m so happy you saw this post 🙂 My little photobomb friend didn’t even stop to chat…he was on a mission!! I’m glad that you like my thoughts about the wind…it just all seemed to click. I send you much love…and yes…I am doing much better thank you so much for asking <3

  9. I’m happy you are feeling better! It was a beautiful walk and a great analogy! it is great sailing when life lets us feel the wind in our back and not in our face 🙂

  10. WOW, the haiku is so beautiful, I can hear the sound of ocean in it. <3 <3
And I LOVE those pictures of you, Lorrie! It seems like you had fun..you were photobombed for good hahaha! Beaches sure are a joy! Oh, I want summer to be here already. 😀

    1. Hello my friend!! Thank you so much…yes I had a beautiful time on my beach walk…it ALWAYS restores me…and as you said fills me with “joy.” And joy is a very good thing 🙂 Hope everything is super in your world <3

      1. Thank you so so much for thinking of me…and for honoring the fact that I may not be able to accept. I struggle with the awards because I am so grateful to be nominated but I have so little time to commit to the process. So I will say “Thank you so much…but I am unable to accept at this time!”

Much love to you and I am happy YOU were recognized for this award!! 🙂

  11. Your words and photos remind me of the ENERGY that happens where the ocean meets the shore. . I live near the ocean but don’t go much in the winter. Now I miss it too! But your post helps me to not take this earth for granted. It is marvelous! Glad you’re feeling better and got out there!

    1. Thanks JoAnne! The ocean holds a very powerful energy…and it is funny you mention that particular phase of movement. One of the very first poems I wrote which was at the beginning of my true healing was about this exact energy…when it crests on the shore and then gently rolls back to meet up with the next incoming wave. Beautiful! Have a super week…and go visit the ocean…You could never be sorry you did that! <3
