4/20/15

As I wake to this new day, starting a new week, I ponder the choices I have to make.  It is clear that the first choice is always, “How am I thinking!”  The rest of the day is shaped, molded, by these beginning thoughts.

Ernest Holmes, in ‘Science of Mind’ said that doctors should never ask their patients, “How do you feel?”  They should always ask, “How are you thinking?”

This was a basic tenet for me the first time I was able to put my disease into remission.  Instead of waking and examining the physical body for pain, stiffness, or lack, I would wake and set my “thoughts” on good, beautiful, positive beliefs.

A few weeks ago I shared this with an 80 year old man who lives in my community.  The other day he almost tripped trying to get to me.  He told me that he really thought about what I said and that he realized that his thoughts are very negative.  He said he always expects bad things to happen.

For the past two weeks he has really been trying to be aware of his thoughts and to change them from negative to positive.  He said, “Lorrie, it is so amazing!!  Within 15 minutes I can completely feel a difference!”  His excitement was so wonderful to witness!

Imagine that!  An 80 year old man who never thought about how he thinks.  It speaks to my belief that most people have no idea how negative they are!

So this post is dedicated to being aware of HOW we think.  I believe that we can change our world and in the process change THE world!

Every day I wake and my first thought is, “How are you thinking?”

How are YOU thinking?

  1. Yes, it is like cognitive therapy, which says that your thoughts shape your emotions. So J. M. Barry was kind of right when he said that happy thoughts make us fly <3

    1. Oh, Brad! It warmed my heart like you can not believe 🙂 The heck with the saying “you can’t teach an old dog…” LOL

Hope your week starts with beautiful spring energy <3

  2. You’re so alive, Lorrie, and have such positive force which spreads i’m sure to
all you come into contact with both directly and at a distance.

    Bless You!

    john

    1. Ah! John! I FEEL so ALIVE!! Thank you for saying so 🙂 To wake each day and to be so happy to explore this life is such a blessing to me. A warm embrace to you <3

  3. Lorrie, it is a special blessing for me to see your blessitudes flowing out in the world. Thank you for enriching my smile with your infectious positive energy!

    1. Beautiful words, John…Thank you!! 🙂 I feel so blessed by your sincere message. Hope all is super in your world…I have a feeling your thoughts are of the utmost high!! <3

  4. Love, love, love that question! So powerful and filled with possibilities and truth.

Have a beautiful, inspiring week. Just thinking about my week, I know I will. 🙂

  5. Sage advice my friend and I just love how you are owning your wisdom and sharing it in all corners of your life. We can easily hide behind our on-line anonymity, but you are rockin’ it! I am going to think my way through a great day! Seeing your post is great timing as I am about to start adding up receipts and preparing our taxes! hugs and love to you Lorrie.

    1. That’s funny, as I very recently wrote a piece about owning my power!! Thanks for the nod, Lisa. I hid for far too long. Now, what you see is what you get!! Keep in that positive mind set as you tally up those receipts 🙂 Tax day was last week for us….I don’t know why, but I always wait until almost the deadline!!! Sending you giant wishes for fun and adventure!! <3

      1. Thanks Lorrie. I am in the home stretch now and feel really good about my mindset through the whole experience. I usually don’t leave it so late and of course the weather is spectacular. C’est la vie☀️☀️☀️

    1. Thank you dear Dennis. The difference in him gave me such a supercharged confirmation of all that is good, and that I am on the right track!! I didn’t “preach” to him…the conversation wasn’t even about him. So the fact that he applied my words to his own life and had such an incredible revelation, proves the fact that people change when they are ready. And we should never question Divine timing!! Have a beautiful week <3

  6. Back in college, studying old theories of personality, we were taught that most of the personality is set in childhood. That never seemed quite true to me. Some people get into the habit of thinking negative thoughts, but your story is a perfect example of how it’s never too late to learn, never too late to change our thought patterns. It’s never to late to change your life! Bravo! to you and your neighbor!

    1. Thanks for adding to this story JoAnne. I’m so happy that you felt exactly the way I did from this experience 🙂 This man is amazing and he taught me a very important lesson. Here’s to ALWAYS having the ability to change!! Much love to you ♡♡

  7. Once again, wonderfully profound thoughts to ponder. I think I will start asking those I meet how they are thinking. Their face reveal much! 🙂

    1. That’s funny, Andy. I have done this and they automatically think you asked “WHAT” are you thinking, not “HOW” are you thinking. It takes a moment for them to “get” it. Have fun my friend. Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  8. @”How are YOU thinking?” – in a positive and optimistic way, no matter what’s going on, saying to myself: any kinda problem does have – at least – one solution… 🙂 to me, HEALTH is and will be n° 1 in life, ’cause the rest will always follow… 🙂 I also believe that everything does happen for a reason, which I guess is where I started realizing it is all on how we base our days: good ones and bad ones… but then again: if everything DOES happen for a reason, well it’s because we make it happen… or not.

    1. Ah! Yes, Me’lanie! And there is the great debate…or not! 🙂 Yes…the way we think shapes our reality. It is funny to me how many people are not aware of this AT ALL! They look at me like I have horns if I talk about it. No…some people believe all of life is just by chance.

Thank you for adding your beautiful positive nature here on my blog!! I love your spirit and it shines through your words!! Hope all is super duper in your part of the world! <3

  9. Well stated and so true!! If I wake up to worry or stress, I immediately start thanking the Lord for all of the Blessings he has given me…turns the thinking right around! Thanks for sharing!!

    1. That’s beautiful, Kirt! Wonderful advice for getting those thoughts back on track 🙂 Gratitude is a huge energy changer. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I hope all is super with you <3

  10. Hey Lorrie! I agree, we need to do a self-check first thing each day. I say a little prayer in thanksgiving for the blessings I have, and I try to do this every day. It’s the way I can begin to center my mind on Godly things.

Good post! Hope to talk with you later on…

    ~Steve

    1. Hi Steve…that is a wonderful way to connect to God’s energy. I believe gratitude is a very important state of being and it does wonders for shifting our energy. Thanks for adding here and for your support. I hope your week is going well! 🙂

      1. Thanks my dear! You are a special heart, Lorrie, and I’ve always appreciated the idea of “Blessitudes!”

Yes, we have the ability to tap into God’s inexhaustible supply of love and energy. Prayer, in my opinion, is the key. It’s our way of talking with our Best Friend!

He helps us through His Devine ways, and puts people in our lives who can also help and support our attitudes and energy.

May He bless you, Lorrie, as you do so much for so many. You are such a good example of a loving soul in my eyes!

Enjoy your day and God bless you and your family/friends…

        ~Steve

        1. Thanks for the very, very kind words Steve! That is the second time this week i’ve heard God referred to as a best friend! It makes me smile! 🙂

          1. He loves all who love Him. He is a Friend because as Jesus has said, we are called “friends” with Him and not a servant because we know His business.

No servant knows what his master’s affairs are. But the Lord is “transparent” with us, to use a modern, worldly term.

            Have a great weekend, Lorrie!

            ~Steve

  11. Love this story, Lorrie! I am thankful for the reminder of how easy it can be to slip into accepting that a particular way of experiencing is all there is…

    Peace
    Michael

  12. Hello Lorrie, great to see the shift in ourselves and others. I definitely set the intention of love and gratitude daily. I call my mind the great empty space of loving creativity. People may still express themselves in negative ways, yet we are no longer attached to their thoughts and actions. I like to call it living in the divine presence of who we truly are when we wake up to having no attachment to anything negative, everything becomes brighter, more loving, and definitely more peaceful. Great to “see” this place in your heart expressed so fully and I heart you back! Love Robyn

    1. Oh…dear Heart to Heart Robyn!! I love seeing a comment by you…I always know that the energy that surrounds it will be clear, and pure, and full of love! Thank you for being here and for adding your beautiful words and energy to my space! I remain a sister in love <3

      1. Grateful to know you my dear Lorrie. Posting and coming into WP much less these days, yet know that I am always connected with you. Much love Robyn

  13. You ARE an angel, my friend. Your words bring a smile to my face. I’m very happy for your new friend, it’s amazing how you can inspire people! <3
Things are going a bit astray from where I wanted them to go but I'm determined to work hard this time! 😀
    Love and hugs! <3

    1. I’m so sorry dear friend…I don’t know how I missed this!! Thank you for your beautiful words to me, I so appreciate your kindness and support. And as far as things going astray, they can do that at times can’t they? I believe that everything happens for a reason. We don’t always see the reason right away, but it always moves us to the place we are meant to be. I will send you beautiful energy that will help you 🙂 Best wishes for making things go the way you want them to go! <3

  14. Dropping in on a back post I didn’t catch
I think this is amazing, that you got someone to think about their thoughts and the impacts they have.. I would think many do not realise the importance of thought. And how it creates.. Excellent.. I hope all is well with your Laurie..
    Love and Blessings your way..
    Sue <3

    1. Thanks Sue! It was quite amazing 🙂 I see that I have a theme going here as I just posted another writing about how our thoughts affect our energy! 🙂 I have a few challenges at the moment, but I am staying in positive thoughts!! Hope your world is super <3

      1. Hi Laurie, I know, knowing what you do, your thought process will be kept as positive as possible.. and all is well in my world Thank you Laurie.. wishing you challenges to be brief and soon gone… Love and Hugs.. Sue xxx

  15. Ah, Ernest Holmes and of course A Course In Miracles. Best 2 books going. That can change anyone’s thinking. They are standards on my shelves and then lovely people like you to remind us when we forget. Thank you. How are you thinking today. Wouldn’t that just stop a conversation. 🙂 I’m late but still in the game. Hugs for this.

    1. Hi Marlene 🙂 Giant, giant smile!! Yes, I agree, these two books have been the foundation of all the wonderful changes in my life!! And right now, in this moment, I thank YOU!! I have had a complication from my surgery…a blood clot…and the past few days have been really rough. Thank you so much for your beautiful, perfectly timed message!! I am Blessitude ♡♡♡
