Barnacle, oh Barnacle
Clinging to life
you grasp as hard as you can
leave sharp edges to fend for the truth that lies inside
does it help you to feel so protected
are your secrets safe
left unexposed
Barnacle, oh Barnacle
I see truth inside you
I see your truth inside me
I see the pain that has burrowed a hole in your body
cemented a wall around your heart
suffocated the secrets from being exposed
sharp edges prevent you from touching me
me from touching you
Barnacle, oh Barnacle
you are stranded on a beach
dried by the sun and lack of understanding
open your arms
let out your truth
feel from your soul
tear down your walls
drink from the wells of the earth
smile from the gates of Heaven
Barnacle, oh Barnacle
hurry
wet your lips with the words from your soul
live with honest truth and understanding
come from your center
and soften your edges
melt into eternity
Barnacle Oh!
Blessitude
Lorrie

So beautifully written Lorrie! 🙂 Deep and meaningful! 🙂
Thanks Line! I was on the beach and there was a piece of driftwood full of barnacles…The poem came from that. I didn’t bring my phone with me (for solitude) and I was going to go back to get a photo. But that is the day I got the message my Mom was in the hospital (probably the only time in the last few years I didn’t have the phone with me!!) I went back to the beach this week to see if by some miracle the barnacles were still there…they were not. So I found some “substitute” barnacle sculpture in an antique store yesterday. 🙂
Much love to you!
I did not know the word barnacle, but from your describtion I knew what it was, so I could see them in my mind 🙂 Lots and lots of Love to you too Lorrie! 🙂
