THE NEXT STEP
Waiting
Always thinking that a giant lightning bolt
will come from the sky
and strike my heart
with love and purpose
Find my destiny
See the steps laid out before me
Cobblestones that lead to the truth
lead to THE THING
Maybe
It’s not like that
Maybe
It’s not waiting for the one true thing
Maybe
It’s taking what I have
right where I am
and offering it up to God
as a gift
understanding
Maybe
It’s taking steps along the way
Maybe
It’s taking action where I am
with what I have
And then
when the cobblestones abruptly end
and I’ve come to an impasse
a place where I don’t know how to move on
a place that is so foreign
it causes great fear
A place that I have avoided my whole life
Maybe then
the fear of not knowing
begins to dissipate
and faith is no longer blind
and the need to control everything in advance
no longer satisfies the thirst
Maybe the gift offered in love
Surrounded by faith
Fueled by the desire to heal
is rewarded with knowledge
