I Feel the Need to Create!!!

I feel the need to create!

A wave so strong

my every waking moment

recognizes and understands

the capabilities that lie within.

My hands and heart and mind and soul are connected.

Connected in Peace

to the one eternal flame

the very thing that we came from

the thing we all go back to

the thing that we ARE…

The Magnificence of Creation!

And I create…

It seems there are not enough hours in the day to do all the things I want to do!!  I am full of Blessitude that I am alive in this energy, and that I am able to engage my creative spirit.

I have started working in glass as art.  It is exciting and a little scary at the same time.  I am very focused and I have a healthy respect for the dangers of the medium as I turn my fears over to the Love of Creation!

I am showing you my second decorative plate in various stages of completion.  The first plate I made, I used mostly pre-cut glass pieces.  However, “Sunflower Salutation,” is all hand cut by me.  When I say ‘hand cut’ I mean either cut with a hand tool, or the power wet cutting tile saw pictured below.

I started with a design and then systematically cut each piece of glass and placed them, like a puzzle, on the two 12 inch round base pieces I cut. The bottom round is white, the top one is clear with blue streaks.

(I just realized I fibbed a little…I did not cut the little Millefiori glass I used for the center of the flower 😉  )

Being new to the art form, the project was not without a few problems.  The most obvious is I did not know that the lighter of the yellow glass I used for the petals was a ‘stryker’ glass…that means that the color of the glass changes when fired in the kiln and the resulting color can be very different.  It almost took my breath away when I saw it turned orange!

This is the plate after fusing in the kiln.  A bubble appeared and I am not sure why.  I should have the answer to that question this week.  Apparently, I have also found of late, sometimes there are no answers as to ‘why’ something happens.

And that is the plate after ‘slumping’ it into a mold.  I love this process…I love this art form…bubbles and all 😉

Thanks for looking.  Wish you all a week filled with eyes that see beauty!!

Blessitude!

    1. Thank you so much, Somali!! What a wonderful way to express it…Yes! I feel like I am being driven to create!!! Have a beautiful week…and thanks again for your kind words 🙂

  1. Wow! I love your glass work. It just sings to my nature girl’s heart. Isn’t it crazy how this creative spark hits you…..and you can’t let go? And as your poem so beautifully illustrates, this is the Spark of Divine Creation being expressed through our hands and hearts.

    1. Yes…Yes…Yes!! It is so powerful…and I do not have the strength (nor the heart) to ignore it! I do not know where it will take me from day to day, but I know that I am never more present in life than when I am creating!!! Blessings to you dear friend…happy creating!!! <3

    1. Super, Brad!! It’s funny that the ‘blemish’ didn’t bother me. I believe in the past, after spending many, many hours working on a project and such a distortion to occur would have bothered me. Maybe I am growing up…hehe…allowing and accepting all that is offered…blemishes and all!! 😉 Hope you are well my friend <3

  2. Lorrie, I am SOOO GLAD you posted this. I love the colors and forms. It all seems to tactile and “real”. I just love picturing you with your hands (and soul) on these pieces. Thank you for inspiring me today.

    1. How wonderful, Kim!!! 🙂 Thank you…thank you for always being you and for inspiring me daily!! I am happy you enjoyed “Sunflower Salutation,” there is more to come!! I wasn’t sure I would share the art here…so I thank you for your heartfelt response!! Blessings, friend!

  3. Outstanding!! Beautiful, Lovely, wonderful and colorful plate. The bubbles add character. Perfection can be blah. Give me the flaws that make art exceptional. I see not only the work but the Love you put into your art form!! 🙂 <3

    1. Oh, DeBorah! Thank you so much my friend! It means the world to me…your words touched my heart…and SOUL!! I know you spend your days surrounded by incredible art, so your words are especially meaningful to me! Bless you dear friend…have a lovely week <3 <3

  4. Lorrie ! This is so very stunning in its creative beauty ….a beauty you have blessed me with today after returning from a month long traveling adventure …thank you dear one …love , megxxx

              1. Great, I thought it was to, which is why I told you. However, I did not tell you to please you. I told you because it’s great to get genuine feedback…. 😊

              2. It is not my sport (sorry football fans!) but I have seen a superbowl before. I hope it is a great game! I will be off line now…have fun 🙂

    1. Thank you, Dorinda!! I have to admit it has grown on me!! But it was quite the shocker when I first saw it 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by…have a wonderful week!

  5. Wow.. Lorrie, I soo soooooooo Love this piece.. How very talented and I love cut glass, having several Tiffany lamps one being made of original old church glass windows… So I adore what you have created..
I think the different colours of the petals blend so well.. Nothing is ever by accident and your Sunflower is given more depth with the two colours which our real Sunflowers have..
Amazing to see you creating and learn about the process..

Love your Creating Space.. Seems like we are both of us making space to create. LOVE it, and you.. Hugs my sister

    1. Thank you, Sue!! I couldn’t agree more!! Nothing is by accident…and the most beautiful part of the art/life connection is that even though it was a shock to see the color change, I embraced it completely. So many times in life things don’t turn out the way we planned…I was always a huge WHY person. It feels so liberating to allow and accept things just as they are…to honor them!! I’m happy you love your Tiffany lamps…I am certain they are BEAUTIFUL!! Much love my friend!!♡

  6. Love. Love. Love! So beautiful — and I love sunflowers and I think the orange captures the essence of their joyfulness and beauty — and the fact they are each unique.

What a wonderful gift you are to the world, no only creating art but inspiring all of us to hear the call of the muse and give way to her passions.

    Beautiful!

    1. Oh!! Louise…Thank you my beautiful friend ♡ I am so humbled by your incredibly kind words and you need to know that you have been an amazing source of inspiration to me…in so so many ways! I’m happy you like the orange petals…and yes…each sunflower is different…hut as we all are…and yet connected 🙂 Blessings…Blessitude my friend! ♡

  7. I love this creative surge of yours Lorrie!! It really is an amazing first piece. You seem to be a natural with art glass! Thank you for sharing this inspiration 💕

    1. Hi Val!! Thank you so much…and I am so happy I shared this! This art is mirroring life for me right now…what an amazing connection…that the destination (finished project) is not so important as the journey itself!! Much love to you…Namaste! ♡

    1. Hi John! Thank you for your kind words…it’s funny…but I read your words and it is as if we had an hour long conversation!!! That is a gift 🙂 Hugs accepted gratefully, and returned!! ♡

  8. Wow!! What a great new art form you are learning, Lorrie! The result is very beautiful, and represents a new creative energy that bubbles within you 🙂

  9. I love it! And I can relate to not having time to do everything we want to do – but you have chosen well to follow you heart! If you can find out how the bubbles happen, maybe you can make them on purpose, but there I go again, trying to control…. Or maybe I just like bubbles. 🙂

    1. Haha!! JoAnna…we would create amazing things together if we lived near one another…and have many laughs along the way 🙂 I think our thoughts…especially about ‘control’ are very similar…hehe. But here is to ‘letting go’ and letting the bubbles be…or not be!! Thanks so much for your friendship and support! ♡

  10. You slay me ☺ Fantastic, wonderful, awesome. A reflection of your inner beauty…vibrant and colourful.

    1. Ah! THANK YOU!! Your words are incredibly moving to me. It is, or at least always has been, difficult for me to graciously accept this kind of compliment. I hope to convey my heartfelt gratitude to you!! ♡

  11. Beautiful glass piece, Lorrie!! Isn’t the creativity zone fun?! It is a definite high. I love when the mind takes off in creativity ideas and time disappears completely. I love that. You are an artist!!
    Blessings and creativity
    Mary

    1. Thanks, Mary! Yes!!! I think that is what makes it so wonderful…when we are creating….we are in the moment…completely!! Time is not a factor and we connect to The Creative Source…ah! Just wonderful 🙂 ♡♡

  12. WOW! Yes, you definitely need to create, Lorrie! So nice to meet you through John! Looking forward to your progress! Isn’t it amazing when we finally find out what we have needed to do for so long. It’s a life-changing thing. And boy….this is gorgeous! I can’t believe you’re new to this! <3

    1. Yes!! Laura..minis amazing…and I feel it will be life changing 🙂 So happy to meet you…and I look forward to seeing your creative spirit’s journey!! 🙂 ♡

  13. Ohhhhhhh I love it. It is so pretty Lorrie. Are you taking a class? I also love @eyes that see beauty.
You keep going girk. I truly believe that we were made to create. It is in our DNA. Made in the image and likeness of a very creative God.
May your eyes see beauty this weekend, my friend.
    😘💕

    1. Thank you Staci ♡ The Sunflower plate was made before I had any instruction…which may explain a few things 😉 I am currently taking a few courses which I AM IN LOVE WITH!!! So much fun…I love learning…and I love art!! Thank you for your beautiful support ♡♡♡♡

      1. Ohhhhh, you are more than welcome Lorrie. I think it’s wonderful that you are doing these courses. I don’t if I told you, but there’s a cultural centre here that offers free courses (or paid by the city). I went to register my daughter for ballet and found out that I, as an adult, could do two courses myself. Sooooo, I enrolled in a 2 hour photography course on Thursday nights and a 2 1/2 hour drawing and painting course on Tuesday afternoons (while my daughter is in her ballet class). Isn’t that awesome!!!! I’m so excited about it.
You go girl. Keep creating and learning.
        🙂 <3

        1. Yes!!! That is awesome, Staci 🙂 🙂 Smiling from ear to ear for you! I am so excited to be able to participate in these classes…it is a very good thing to constantly learn…and to push ourselves beyond boundaries. These past two comments came through my administration okay…but I think that.is because I marked your other ones as not spam. Yes I’ve been having a lot of difficulty when I post 🙁 It takes me 3-4 times asnlong…and quite frankly it takes some of the joy out of it! Have a great weekend dear friend! ! ♡♡

          1. I couldn’t agree more Lorrie. I think it’s so important to never stop learning. I think it’s great that you are doing these classes and that you’re pushing yourself beyond boundaries.
I’m glad that these last two comments came trough as normal. It can be really frustrating, can’t it.
Have a beautiful and creative week, my friend.
            🙂 <3

    1. “Fellow artist!” I like it…I like it a lot 🙂 Thank you Kirt! I really find I like this art form 🙂 I am working on a new project, and taking a few classes. There’s nothing like “doing” for learning but a class or two is helpful for the basics (and learning why my bubble occurred 🙂

  14. This is so beautiful. To take component pieces and turn it into something else made lovingly is the gift of creation. I completely relate to the understanding of that urge felt within us all, in some way, to create. Some do it in cooking, in knitting, in crafting, in words, in birth, so many different ways to share in that gift. And when we do, the joy. Your last post proclaims that, ‘I am an artist!’ How perfectly liberating to acknowledge that.
I clicked over from F.G.M. who dedicated a beautiful poem and song to you. So glad I did. You’ve reminded me here of our share in creation and why doing so gives so much joy when we embrace it.
Have a wonderfully creative day. You are an artist.

    1. Ah!! You so get it…and I am thrilled that you articulated it here 🙂 Thank you!! I think it has been such an honor to realize my gift…the gift of creating with no judgment!! I don’t look at my art as something to be judged or compared…I look at it as the beauty of the process itself!! I am truly grateful…for all that I learn…for all that I create….and for connecting with beautiful souls such as yourself!! Thank you! Thank you!! ♡♡

  15. Create – and did you ever. It’s beautiful. All the happy colours and what I really like is how you connected with your self and your need to create – and then you followed through and you did it. You’re inspiring me (again), I think we can all come up with great ideas on what we’d like to do, but what makes this so delicious is that the idea, the need, become your reality. Bravo! Hugs, Harlon

    1. Thank you, Harlon ♡♡ I’m so happy you said you are inspired…it is such a wonderful thing to be! And I agree with you…we CAN all come up with ideas of things we would like to do…and then I think the key is to dispell the fear that prevents us from following through! I am exploring fear in my life…it seems there is a lot of it. The machines I use…not to mention the glass itself!..some of the sheets are 2 ft by 3 ft…are frightening to me. I have to literally change my energy from fear to love when I start working. It has been a wonderful experience in so many ways!! Thank you my friend…you always inspire me ♡

  16. It’s beautiful, Lorrie! I love the way the colors surprised you… So much of the glory of the creative process, it seems to me, lies in these moments of discovery. I really like the orange that came out, but knowing it was unexpected gave me that twinge of delight, and you realize the whole universe is creating through you. So often the best creative moves are unexpected, and revealed only after the process has come to fruition… You are off to a glorious start in this medium!

    Peace
    Michael

    1. Yes…yes…yes!!! You nailed exactly what I felt about it! I am so grateful, Michael, to be able to create…and to be able to be understood by beautiful souls such as yourself!! Thank you for your friendship ♡♡

  17. What a beautiful piece of arte Lorrie! It radiates such beautiful colors! You feel the need to create because you are “Connected in Peace/ to the one eternal flame”… I know there is an incandescent Sunflower in your heart that looks like the one you have wonderfully created! Congratulations Mrs Bowden… & much loive to you my dearest friend, take care! ♡♡♡

    1. My dearest Frédéric ♡♡ Thank you for your beautiful words my wonderful soulmate!! I love the idea that there is a sunflower like the one I created in my heart…wow! That is such a wonderful way of thinking about creation…the things we create in this world are the things that live in our hearts!! Ah! I have been so busy, Fre’de’ric, hardly a spare moment…but it is all good. I will write soon ♡♡♡ Sending you much love and light ♡

  18. I LOVE the piece, bubbles and all. Art is not perfection it’s about creation and you have just done that. I love fused glass art. Wanted my daughter to get into it. I can’t handle one more hobby. 🙂 The need to create is innate in all of us. Not many do it so successfully. They will get more beautiful with each piece.

    1. Oh…Marlene! Thank you for the kind words…and the reminder that it is the journey…not the destination 😉 I appreciate you so much…and just a warning…fused glass is very addictive 🙂 I hope to post soon and show my 2nd creation. I hope all is wonderful in your world ♡♡
